Wondering what is at its end, she and her feline companion embark on a quest to find out. Along the way they meet a rabbit, a bird, a turtle, and a horse and after explaining their mission ask each in turn, "Do you want to come?" Of course, they accept, each imagining a secret treasure to find at journey's end. But when they finally slow down and look up, the rainbow is gone. They remain upbeat, however, as they discover that they have found something even better than their desired prizes: new friends. The only spread, aside from cloud-filled endpapers, is the one showing the child, exuberant at the sight of a rainbow stretching overhead across the meadow. Brief text follows, appearing most often on white background along with spot art rendered in watercolor and ink. Facing full-color pages depict the cartoon characters hurrying toward their goal, the ever-present rainbow overhead—until they pause to discover "It's gone." Youngsters will enjoy chiming in on the repetitive text and talking about why finding friends would be better than finding treasures at the end of a rainbow. About the Author
Thomas J. Cutler is a retired lieutenant commander and former gunner's mate second class who served in patrol craft, cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. His varied assignments included an in-country Vietnam tour, small craft command, and nine years at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Seamanship & Navigation Department and Associate Chairman of the History Department. While at the Academy, he was awarded the William P. Clements Award for Excellence in Education (military teacher of the year).

He is the founder and former Director of the Walbrook Maritime Academy in Baltimore. Currently he is Fleet Professor of Strategy and Policy with the Naval War College and is the Director of Professional Publishing at the U.S. Naval Institute.

Winner of the Alfred Thayer Mahan Award for Naval Literature, the U.S. Naval Institute Press Author of the Year, and the U.S. Maritime Literature Award, his published works include NavCivGuide: A Handbook for Civilians in the U.S. Navy; A Sailor's History of the U.S. Navy [one of the books in the Chief of Naval Operations Reading Program]; The Battle of Leyte Gulf; Brown Water, Black Berets: Coastal & Riverine Warfare in Vietnam; and the 22nd, 23rd (Centennial), and 24th editions of The Bluejacket's Manual. His other works include revisions of Jack Sweetman's The Illustrated History of the U.S. Naval Academy and Dutton's Nautical Navigation. He and his wife, Deborah W. Cutler, are the co-editors of the Dictionary of Naval Terms and the Dictionary of Naval Abbreviations.

His books have been published in various forms, including paperback and audio, and have appeared as main and alternate selections of the History Book Club, Military Book Club, and Book of the Month Club. He has served as a panelist, commentator, and keynote speaker on military and writing topics at many events and for various organizations, including the Naval History and Heritage Command, Smithsonian Institution, the Navy Memorial, U.S. Naval Academy, MacArthur Memorial Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, U.S. Naval Institute, Armed Forces Electronics Communications and Electronics Association, Naval War College, Civitan, and many veterans' organizations. Tim Zak was born in Jersey City, N.J. as a flower child of the 1960's. He is a former student of the Institute of Children's Literature of West Redding, CT. He studied literature and creative arts in college, and spent time as a reporter for the Asbury Park Press in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Tim is now is a full time expert children's book author, allowing his passion for writing to speak to children in his content rich adventure books.

He currently has turned his love for writing children's books about animal stories to the Amazon platform. Many of the bedtime stories and baby animals that he has developed for children over the past 30 years are jumping from the pages of his kids books and springing to life in this fun digital format. Tim plans on bringing all his fun and lovable nursery rhymes to Amazon where he thinks he has finally found the perfect home for all his fans to enjoy.

My niece loved it.

Very cute story. I read this to my niece and she was loving it. She kept pointing at the lizard and calling him Kalel which is her lizards name. She was very excited because she thought the story was about Kalel. She even went to school and told her classmates that her lizard was in a book. A++ from a 7 year old and I enjoyed it also, especially seeing how happy it made her.

He earned his undergraduate degree in Engineering Science from the University of California at Berkeley, spent a year at the University of Sheffield in England, and finished his Ph.D. in statistics at Stanford University. Jay previously taught at the University of Florida and at Oberlin College and has had visiting appointments at Stanford, Harvard, the University of Washington, New York University, and Columbia University. From 1998 to 2006, he served as Chair of the Cal Poly SLO Statistics Department. In addition to this book, Jay has written several other widely used statistics texts and a book in applied mathematical statistics. He recently coauthored a text in probability and stochastic processes. He is the recipient of a distinguished teaching award from Cal Poly, is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, and has served several terms as an Associate Editor of the "Journal of the American Statistical Association." In his spare time, he enjoys reading, cooking and eating good food, tennis, and travel to faraway places. He is especially proud of his wife, Carol, a retired elementary school teacher, his daughter Allison, who has held several high-level positions in nonprofit organizations in Boston and New York City, and his daughter Teresa, a high school teacher in New York City.

I was assigned an earlier edition of this book as an engineering statistics textbook in 1984. I used it in my profession as my go-to statistics reference until it was dog-eared and spine-broken, then I bought the 5th edition, which is now likewise nearing the end of its functional life, so soon I'll buy another. It has satisfied almost every single question I have run into regarding stats with simple, easy to understand instructions and theory and good examples. I can't recommend it highly enough as a professional reference book. I wasn't particularly wowed by it as a student, but that is because I didn't know any better at the time.

Absolute worst textbook

I am certain this book was not meant for engineering students. Everything in this book is written as if the reader already has mastered statistics and probability. There is little to no explanation on any of the topics, and I've encountered a number of end-of-unit questions that have no corresponding lesson or example. I have never felt this confused in my life!

If you're stuck with a class that requires this book:
1) Your instructor has probably been paid kickbacks by the publisher.
2) Your instructor likely doesn't care if you understand the material, or if you even pass the class.
3) Your instructor probably doesn't do very favorably on ratemyprofessor.com

If you're in an online class that requires this book:
1) Consider changing your major

Khan Academy will save you hours of frustration when you're trying to complete homework and study for exams. This has been the only thing that has even remotely helped me through the first 3 chapters.

lacks intuition, but good for practicing

This is a big book covering many topics like Probability, distributions, ANOVA and correlation. There are quite a few problems to solve that will help you strengthen your learning. But this book lacks explaining the concept. The author directly dives into the formula and it's usage. Detailing how to intuitively think about say, regression, will make this book really worthwhile.
