As a early childhood professional of 15 years, I have read, reviewed, and used many resources to expand my knowledgebase in the field of early childhood education. The study of Infancy, in my opinion, is a specialty field. It is a field that most people who acquire in this field of study are gifted in understanding young children in this vital stage of life. When, expanding your knowledge on issues such as genetic epistemology a term coined by Piaget, it is important to understand that infants are born to learn and that even before birth babies develop cognitively. For instance, a mother listening to a favorite Mozart piece repetitiously while a child is the womb and later re-introducing the same song to a child in a "crying state"(Guiney, 2013) to soothe the child could be a schema learned in the womb and the schema conducted by the child is being assimilated to an new situation is evidence of cognition development in the womb.
Although, the mother may think that listening to Mozart's greatest hits is just a way to escape the world and get some R&R from a long and tiresome day of work, she is doing a great work in the development of her baby. But,it would be even MORE awesome if she actually knows HOW important those Mozart pieces really are and how it could help a child in one or more of the "Baby States" that Guiney mentions in her book!
"My Baby States"by Jennifer Brown Guiney is a wonderful, simplistic,and creative illustration to explain to mommies-to-be, new moms, and even veteran mothers on the different stages of babies! If your're new mom or a vet and stomped on the what's what with your Bundle of Joy, this book will definitely lead you in the right direction in understanding your baby and what stage your little one is active in. When you come into the knowledge shared by Guiney, of the termed stages and assess what stage your child is in, you then can cope easily and really formulate a connection and bond with your child.
The cute illustrations of babies in each stage explained in the book are so key in visually seeing and giving insight on what stage your baby is in even while you are reading this review! The descriptions are so wonderful and simplistic teacher can utilize this book for thematic curriculum about Me and my Family or a activity about babies, Mommies to-be, New Moms, and Vet moms can use this for more knowledge and pass it on to other moms, and this is great for Early childhood educators to understand the field of Infancy. Hey! It's even great for Dads and Babysitters too! This is a excellent book and a book that can be used for ages to come! Excellent work Mrs. Jennifer Brown Guiney you get five stars from me! My Baby States is a sweet book in the voice of the baby. It seems to very simple but it carries a deep message about how to be with your infant -- how to come to know her or him -- by watching their states of sleep and alertness, even distress.

Do not be fooled by this little book's size. Inside those board covers it summarizes an entire realm of research on babies' states of awareness in terms and with illustrations that allow parent and child to learn about each other.
