About the Author
Darren Neely is a military researcher and historian living in Maryland, USA. He co-authored the much acclaimed Nürnberg’s Panzer Factory with Roddy MacDougall published by Panzerwrecks in 2013.

An excellent book

Filled with superb, high quality photographs printed on glossy paper. Great, atmospheric action shots (the winter '44 - spring '45), with the American soldiers in the combat zone, maintaining their vehicles, examining and finally posing on the knocked out German armour.

The book doesn't only contain wrecks of German AFVs, but also a GREAT number of destroyed "G.I. tanks". This includes a picture of a M4 that has received 88mm shot, penetrating clean through the turret sides. Then there are M4s that received some nasty shot groupings, one "ironically" on the reinforced side armour plate with a Allied star insignia used as an aiming point.

Pictures tell how much the Americans tried to improve the protection on their vehicles - from sandbags to applying concrete rebar and tracks on all the surfaces and even experimenting with the spaced armour. These never really worked against the cheapest and the most effective German anti-tank weapon, Panzerfaust. But then again, destroyed M4 was easy to patch up and put back in action and there was much more of them, when the German forces were desperate to find anything that could shoot.

If you are a fan of the "Panzerwrecks" series and wish to see KO-ed Allied armour as well, then you won't be disappointed with the Forgotten Archives.

Dozens of clear, unpublished, and interesting photos from the ETO

These are some of the best pictures from WW2 that I've ever seen. Why, one might ask? Firstly, many of the pictures are of scenes that are tailor made for dioramas (there is a burnt our He 111 bomber that has to become a diorama) and are in extremely high resolution. If you're a model maker this book will be a joy, even if you're not modelling WW2 US and German subjects the details of weathering are useful. In the 240 pages you get photos of M4's M10's, Panthers, Stugs, Jeeps, planes; all in action and in the ETO. There are three pages of text about the US Signal Corps and then captions with each photo. Impressively, most of the captions have details about where and when the photo was taken and many even have the names of the men in the photo. There are details of uparmored tank destroyers and also a M-18 with signs for troop recognition that were novel to me and in fact I have seen very few of these pictures before.
So, a couple hundred unpublished photos from the ETO selected for clarity, resolution, and detail seems a very good deal to me. I look forward to many more books in this series.

When the first volume of Japanese Secret Projects was published, it shone a spotlight onto many previously overlooked or almost unknown Japanese aircraft projects and it was an immediate hit with aviation enthusiasts and historians. Now, after five years of dedicated research, the next volume in the series continues the story of the secret projects of the Japanese aviation industry, focusing in particular on designs that actually progressed beyond the drawing board (whether or not they flew).

The aircraft described in Japanese Secret Projects Volume 2 include significant pre-war types such as the Mitsubishi 1MT1N Torpedo Carrier and the record-breaking Gasuden Koken-Ki, as well as projects for long range bombers and advanced fighters to replace the increasingly antiquated designs in service as the war progressed. Later, as Japan’s situation became increasingly desperate, the concept of suicide missions came to the fore and existing aircraft designs were modified to deliver the maximum destruction by “special attack” units. Later still, when invasion looked inevitable, purpose-built suicide aircraft, capable of being assembled by semi-skilled labor and flown by novice pilots, were developed as part of the anti-invasion plan Operation Ketsugo.

Japanese Secret Projects Volume 2 also examines the influence of German wartime aircraft, such as the proposed Hitachi He-Type Heavy Bomber, based on the Heinkel He-177 and looking beyond just aircraft designs, the Ku-Go directed energy weapon project and Japan’s nuclear weapons programs are also described.

Illustrated throughout with rare photographs, drawings, 3-view illustrations and color profiles, Japanese Secret Projects Volume 2 is an essential reference for any serious aviation and military enthusiast, modeler or historian.

About the Author
Edwin M. Dwyer has studied military technology for more than 20 years, concentrating on weaponry from 1914 to 1960. In 1999, he created the Hikoki:1946 website, highlighting Japanese experimental aircraft. He is currently serving in the United States Civil Air Patrol with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Another Great Reference Source on Japanese WW2 Aviation

After releasing his first volume of Japanese Secret Projects, author Edwin Dyer then set about more research on the subject of Japanese experimental aircraft. After five years his second volume yields yet more very interesting information on the topic.

Additionally this second volume has a revised theme and layout. In Volume One, the author made use of very high quality artwork of the various subjects in that book using a number of renowned aviation artists; depicting the aircraft in actual colour schemes of Japanese units particularly those of the home defence air units. In this second volume the author makes use of line diagrams, colour profiles and numerous photos of the actual aircraft that he has painstakingly gathered.

This second volume continues to examine the various experimental aircraft of both the IJA and IJN air forces during the years 1922-1945 and looks at those aircraft built by: Aichi, Hitachi, Kawanishi, Kawasaki, Kujishu, Mitsubishi and Nakajima as well as both the IJA and IJN nuclear weapons programmes.

I enjoyed this book as it follows on from the first volume with more information that has been sourced by the author during his research into this topic over time.

In summary a very well researched and written book, rich in data and visual graphics to assist in 'seeing' what some of these aircraft were like-or intended to be like. The author delivers a very accurate and detailed account of this subject. This second volume, supplemented by the first volume, would be very valuable resources for fans of Japanese WW2 military aviation as well as model kit enthusiasts as there are a number of kits of these type of of aircraft on the market today. Disappointing when compared to Volume One

The scope of author Edwin Dyer's second volume on experimental Japanese aircraft has been broadened to include programs dating back to 1922. I'm assuming this was done to allow for creation of a book similar in size to the first volume. Mr. Dyer also states in the preface that he sought to reduce the number of conjectural drawings in favor of more photographs.

The result of this is a work that is tangential to the objective of the original volume/ Personally, I have little interest in aircraft that are more accurately referred to as post-WW! designs. I also have an issue with his too a great a reliance on photographs of German designs used as the basis for Japanese aircraft. In such cases where no photo of the Japanese craft could be found, I would rather he had maintained the approach of providing artwork.

Deserves to collect dust on the Warehouse shelves at Amazon.

This is a book seemingly written specifically for me! I am a total gear-head, VERY into cars, VERY into Wright, and I own a Usonian home in Wisconsin that was designed by one of the earliest apprentices of FLLW. Having said that... this book deserves to be returned to Amazon. There is nothing new, nothing interesting, and nothing even noteworthy in this book. The forward/introduction is basic and includes no information that is not available elsewhere. There are only a few photographs in this book of actual FLLW cars, and they're almost all of the same single car (on the cover). The rest are reprinted advertisements for cars that Wright owned, most in black and white. There are no descriptors, and no meaningful discussion as to WHY FLLW would buy the cars he did. Why was this book even written? Shouldn't there have been an archive search for actual photos of the cars in use? FLLW posing in, next to, or even driving one of these cars? Just make my mistake a learning point for other FLLW and automobile enthusiasts... let this one collect dust on the shelves at Amazon.

Random Smatterings of Jargon Taken from Other Literature

I have actually been trying to reach Mr Klaene about this book. As I have had over 20 years in the fire service and read just about every manual/book made, this was unbelievably hard to read..
I termed this particular book (after my second time through it) "Random Smatterings of Jargon Taken from Other Literature".
Did anyone actually study or proofread this? Examples: one page it says "when higher ranking officer relieves lower ranking of cammand, consider assigning them to Operations Sec Chief" ... then a few pages later- "when another IC assumes command, the relieved officer should be assigned to Planning"..
Or under "Delegating Authority" this is a sentence (quote) "Information exchange through good communication is key to managing the fire ground." .. This topic is not about communications OR firegound, its about DELEGATING authority.. Random, oddball interjections of non-relevant subjects and confusing/contradicting statements made me and everyone that I've talked to scratch our heads a bit.
Those are examples from just a the first few pages, there is a lot more.. I hated this book for this reason.
There may be relevant and important subject matter, but the way it is laid out confuses me. Almost like he threw (strategy/tactics) cue cards in the air, picked them up and started writing..

I loved this book for three reasons one, because it was Minecraft two, it was a VERY adventuring and touching book. Four, I feel there needs to be part two. The Life of An Enderqueen and how she lived. I loved this book so much!!!! Is there a part two????? Please tell me if there is!
