About the Author
Laura Allen is the author of The Water-Wise Home and cofounder of Greywater Action, a collaborative of educators who teach residents and tradespeople about affordable and simple household water systems that dramatically reduce water use and foster sustainable cultures of water. She leads classes and workshops, including the first training program for professional greywater installers, and participates in writing state government greywater and composting toilet codes. She lives in Eugene, Oregon.

If you're considering smarter water systems, here is a place to start. Thinking about rainwater capture, greywater systems or extending water use? Get this book!
From basic questions - including should you do it - to legal issues, paving the way for systems, dealing with authorities, how to install the systems, greenhouse use, how much tank space do you need, alternatives like water pillows and outdoor showers, there is a huge variety of ideas and advice. Soil types, lay of the land, what kind of plants, and much more - what to expect, what to be prepared for, rain gardens, raised beds, capture of runoff - figuring slope, gravity fed or pump, how big or small of an area to use, options for slow drains, dry areas hot climates and freezing ones, there is a good overall picture of doing it right the first time.
The factor the book can't cover is an honest assessment of YOUR situation. If you can give that, get this book. Outstanding one stop shop info. Whether a rain barrel, cistern, tank of a host of other options, this is a good place to start.

This is a wonderful, cause-effect-solution book that is easy to read, well illustrated and extremely informative.

At first glance, I thought this might be another DIY book on frugal and sustainable ways to save some water. We already have the low-flow toilets, harvest rainwater, and try to plant it places to best use the natural terrain and conserve.
What I wasn't expecting, and what is hidden in the title, is becoming Water-Wise. Not just for your home, but everyone in your home becoming wise about the water table and system in your area.
You won't find a list of ten projects to save you some water. But you will find a detailed complete home and landscape walk-through that will help you prepare, establish, and implement ways to get the whole family on board saving water.
This isn't just about cutting your water bill, this is about sustainability and environmental impact and change that we can all take part in.

Excellent book for everyone

Although I have not read all of it yet, this book is excellent. It is straight forward with easy diagrams. A perfect book for someone wanting to start saving and recycling water. I highly recommend it.
