Storied pilot Homer Stockert, born in Churubusco, Indiana, won air races in Fort Wayne in the 1920s, earning him legendary fame while only in his twenties. In 1933, he established the Stockert Flying Service at Bendix Field, South Bend, Indiana, an airport built by entrepreneur Vincent Bendix. After serving as a test pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft in Evansville, Indiana, during World War II, Stockert returned to Bendix Field to expand his flying service with his business-savvy wife, Dora. Stockert led a successful life of leadership in private aviation until his death in 1971.

Quenin L. Hartwig, Ph.D., earned his doctorate in Biology at the University of Notre Dame, served in the School of Aviation Medicine, USAF, wrote thirty-one published scientific articles, and has held teaching and administrative positions.

Great Book! I Really enjoyed every page

Great Book! I Really enjoyed every page, Too bad it wasn't longer. I worked at Bendix Field from 1945 to 1950 as a Station Attendant for United Air Lines. In those days you had to be a "Jack of all trades" and preform every service involved in air travel from reservations, and selling tickets to load planning and cargo handling. I enjoyed the work but could not live on the starvation wage of $127.50 a Month! I left UAL and went to work at Bendix Products division of Bendix Aviation Corporation and retired in 1989 after forty-two years of service.

Uncle Homer

I enjoyed the book the middle was a little dry for me with all the details about which officers were in charge. Since Homer Stockert was my uncle and we would see him quite often I could have added quite a few details to it, like how he would bring some of the movie film from the gun cameras on board the air planes and we would watch the dog fights..
