Right on for 21st century public library transformation!
By Eyezee49
Judge Wolff is a visionary and risk taker who was inspired by Steve Jobs' creativity and his journey of reclaiming Apple. Following his own six principles for a successful business, Judge Wolff took a seed of an idea and germinated it using the political, governmental and human resources at his fingertips to bring technology to those who struggle to pay rents or mortgages, to put food on the table, to provide opportunities for their children to better themselves, and to have the digital tools to be successful in today's world.

As a professional librarian and library planning consultant working across the country, I see public library systems that are still focused on print collections and traditional services, others that are innovative and risk takers engaging in partnerships that increase the quality of life for all residents, and others that transform their physical structures into people centric rather than physical book centric community hubs focused on active learning for all ages.

Public library leaders and boards of trustees take heed as public dollars for constructing library buildings and ongoing operations are no longer sustainable as they were in earlier decades. The BiblioTech model is one to consider as a new tool for providing lifelong learning in many of your communities.

A most unusual library
By Bob and Elsa Pendleton
An excellent overview of libraries and library services is an added benefit of reading this history of the founding and first year of Bibliotech in San Antonio, Texas. Judge Wolff is a genuine bibliophile (and as such, not necessarily a fan of public libraries) and understands the valuable contributions library resources make to a community.
It will be interesting to see how this digital library will mature and whether it will promote overall library use. Students of government will also be interested in his experiences leading the development of this very different library.
As a former librarian in public library work, I hope that eventually Bibliotech will inspire other innovative designs, but I'm still convinced that communities, especially underserved groups, will receive the most benefits from a more balanced library experience.
However, I learned a lot from this book and recommend it without reservation. (the editing issues are, in my opinion, no worse than those to be found in books issued by major publishers these days).

Interesting history
By SillyGatos
Interesting back story to the central library of the City of San Antonio as well as the new digital library of Bexar County at the heart of this title. I would like to see more explanation as to why county residents should not share city library costs when the jurisdictions are practically the same. I would also like to see more data on how the e-services are being used, especially since I have not used them, despite living in the county. I also wish there had been better editing, but I encorage all Bexar County residents to read this book and as well as anyone interested in the changing nature of libraries or technology.
