Author Salina Yoon on the inspiration behind Found
FOUND is the story of a bear who finds a stuffed bunny in the forest. While searching for the bunny’s owner, Bear develops an attachment to the lost and treasured toy. Will he be able to do the right thing and return the bunny when its owner arrives? FOUND was inspired by lost and found posters in my neighborhood. I thought about how kind it is to not only care for lost animals, but to actively try to seek out their families. I wondered if a child would grow attached to the pet while caring for it, and how the child would feel if the owner came forward. Any child who has loved and lost will share in Bear's emotions; from sorrow, even mourning, to utter delight when the bunny is home, safe and found.

Just when he thinks no one will claim it, Moose recognizes his lost lovey. Bear prepares for a tearful parting, but Moose has outgrown the toy (as indicated by his necktie) and gladly passes it on to an appreciative Bear. "Floppy was home, safe and FOUND!" Bear is such a good guy: he cares about others' feelings, he's proactive, he's even responsible enough to wear a helmet while riding a tricycle. It's impossible not to like him. The consistently inanimate portrayal of Floppy emphasizes the intensity of Bear's feelings and imagination. The simplicity of the understated text lets the emotion shine through. Thick-lined, opaque digital paintings offer dramatic perspectives alternating with straightforward scenes. Humorous touches include a bulletin board of clever LOST flyers and a little bird who follows Bear around, clearly interested in Floppy's fate. Question: Will books about lost toys ever go out of style? Answer: Does a bear skip in the woods? This one does, anyway, and he discovers an abandoned stuffed rabbit. Well, that’s no good! He rushes home, designs a Found poster, and then posts cute little copies of it everywhere, from the tip-tops of trees to beneath the stream. For a long while, nothing happens—until one day a moose stops him with a cry of Floppy, my bunny! Here things take a poignant turn; Bear discovers he doesn’t want to return Floppy. It’s quite sad, until Moose, who is an adult (you can tell because he wears a tie, though nothing else), realizes that special toys are meant to be passed on to someone special. The story is as simple as can be, but the emotions behind it are complex, and Yoon’s bright, thick-lined digital illustrations reflect that—they’re both cute as heck and heartbreaking, and alternate between amusing panoramas and emotional close-ups. Beautiful book!

Very beautiful, touching book. I picked this book up while meandering through my local book haunt. I read it and teared up (and I'm just a big dumb guy). I handed the book to my wife...she read it and cried. It's a very touching, sweet book about forming bonds and caring for others. Very good example for kids and adults alike. The illustrations are beautiful. I bought this book without hesitation and came to Amazon to find more of Salina's work. I highly recommend this for the and 5-7 range. And the age 35-37 range as well.

I love Found! It is a beautiful, heart-felt story that is filled with the kind of love that is sure to warm your heart and bring a smile to your face. Found does a wonderful job of addressing the true meaning of "home". When bear finds a lost toy rabbit, he tries so hard to find its owner! He searches everywhere, and even pins up lost posters in his attempts to find rabbit's home. In the meantime, he and the toy bunny begin to form a friendship, sharing days filled with playing and exploration. When the rabbit's true owner finally turns up, bear tearfully returns his friend. It's a great ending when the owner discovers that rabbit has found a new home - with Bear!
The text is well written, with a smooth read aloud flow. It is the illustrations however that make this book truly adorable and oh so memorable. Simple lines and bold colors bring bear to life with a childlike innocence that really touched my heart. The scenes with bear and rabbit playing together were my favorite, and with the small touches that the artist has added to each scene, this is a guarantee for lots of repeat reads. Examining the wall of lost posters with Bear will guarantee lots of laughs - some that I think were included just for parents. There are many times when the art tells the story, going even further than the text. When Bear is looking for rabbit's home, he makes rabbit his own bed on the floor. When rabbit is finally his, he comes to sleep beside Bear in his bed.
I look forward to sharing this with my story time audience. The large, simple illustrations make this an excellent choice for group sharing. Bear's emotions are easy to read and I'm sure kids will be able to relate to both his tears and his joy. Found is an excellent choice for story time, preschool classrooms, or any preschooler's personal collection. This is a true gem.

Such a sweet little story

This book is just not for Easter, but year-round. Any child who has a special attachment with a toy will love this story. My kids are just riveted whenever I read this to them. a wonderful book for any age. It is so heart-warming and touching, which is so wonderful as these themes are conveyed in the simplest way that anyone with a heart can relate. The illustrations make the story all the more touching.
