The youngster is very tired, so his father picks him up and carries him home, singing, "Hush-a-bye, Little One," as the sun sets over the meadow. In the last illustration, the pair is snuggled up for the night. "I love you, Little One," he says. "Sweet dreams and good night." The gentle, doe-eyed characters are rendered in soft-toned watercolors. Each page has very few words, which are printed in large type. About the Author
Dawn Casey traveled in Africa and Asia before working in a garden studio, publishing multicultural children's books. She now dreams up her own stories, inspired by the everyday magic of the world. She lives with her husband, two little ones, and a tabby cat.
Charles Fuge has been writing and illustrating since 1988. Published while he was in art school, his first picture book won the Mother Goose Award for best newcomer to children's books. He lives in England with his partner, Sarah, and their son, Ollie.

Each page-turn is a delight, filled with bright and beautiful color. There is no shortage of character cuteness!

Dawn Casey and Charles Fuge join forces in this tale of father-child bonding. It is evening and Big Daddy Rabbit invites his Little One along for some purely sweet frolicking - chasing each other though the woods, playing hide-and-seek, dancing and splashing. They are joined throughout the story by an owl, a mouse, and a very friendly bear. Each page-turn is a delight, filled with bright and beautiful color. There is no shortage of character cuteness!
The story rides a light-hearted high until it is interrupted by a sudden whimper. As with most little ones, the excitement can quickly end when all energy is spent and bedtime calls. "Are you all worn out from that hullaballo?" asks the father. "Maybe it's time for a lullaballoo." A rose and yellow watercolor sunset spreads atop the page as Big Rabbit carries his Little One away and their friends wave goodnight. We are left with a sense of completion and comfort seeing these two furry creatures snuggle together for some sweet dreams, making it a wonderful bedtime book for us to settle into a snuggle with our own little ones.
These illustrations are fantastic, and I believe a child of any age would enjoy looking through this book. Fuge brings great expression and feeling to the story. The text, also, has the potential for added dramatic expression, using words that may tickle the ears of young children - whooped and swooped, splashed and sploshed, and snuffled and snuggled. The storyline is short and in a very simple rhyme, setting the ideal audience target to a younger crowd of around two to five years old.

A lovely book for a bedtime story! 10 out of 10 cuteness factor! Ages 2-5

SUMMARY: It is nearing bed time so Daddy Rabbit and Baby Rabbit head out for a last romp through the meadow. They meet up with several friends along the way who join the play. But before long, Baby Rabbit whimpers. He is tired from all the play. Daddy Rabbit hugs him tight and sings a lullaby until Baby is fast asleep.
ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations were created in watercolor. They are large and colorful for the younger ones, yet full of fascinating details along the way. I love how well the motion of each character was shown on each page as the owl swooped and the bear tumbled. I also love how the colors of the sky gradually grow into a sunset and then darkness for the final goodnight. The cuteness factor of the characters is a 10 out of 10!
REVIEW: This was such an enjoyable bed time book to read! The rhyming is lovely with a good pace. The story is short making it a perfect length for a bed time story for the littlest ones. Although this book has quite a bit of romping about, everything about it winds down from the activity of the animals to the darkening of the sky. And the story is very sweet, ending with a big cuddle from Daddy Rabbit.

Charming. One of My Daughter's Favorites!

I had checked this book out from the library for my 16 month old daughter and she fell in love with it. I went ahead and decided to add it to her little library and I am glad that I did because after many months of habitual use, it is still in her regular lineup. The illustrations are well done and the pages are large and thick enough that they're not easily torn when a toddler turns them. The story is simple and sweet and can be read with a sing-song type melody due to the rhyming nature of the story. This is a great one for the little ones!
