From School Library Journal
PreS-K—This book provides a look at the inner workings of a toddler's mind. "You really want to know what he's thinking?… Really? Okay, brace yourself." The boy's off-the-wall thoughts are translated into a frenzied reality as he explores, from trying on his mama's high-heeled shoes to picking up the family pet by its head. His fascination with every button in his house occupies his thoughts. When easily distracted, his attention immediately flits back to his family in dramatic fashion. "'Wait, where's Daddy? Where's the cat? Where' s Mommy? MOMMY LEFT FOREVER!'" The high-energy incredulity of the boy's realizations, such as when he discovers his toes or notices he urinated on himself, dominates each scene until he finally succumbs to sleep. Colors bleed outside of coarse charcoal lines to convey a childlike exuberance. Mixed-media illustrations, from art digitally created by acrylic paints, watercolors, and oil pastels, maintain the loud energy found within the child's home. Even brightly patterned wallpaper adds bold color to the decor. In a manic glimpse into the absence of impulse control, this child's zany exuberance knows no bounds.—Meg Smith, Cumberland County Public Library, Fayetteville, NC

“Mixed-media illustrations, from art digitally created by acrylic paints, watercolors, and oil pastels, maintain the loud energy found within the child's home. Even brightly patterned wallpaper adds bold color to the decor. In a manic glimpse into the absence of impulse control, this child's zany exuberance knows no bounds.” ―School Library Journal

“Weary parents--as well as those responsible for some of that weariness--will find it easy to recognize themselves.” ―Publishers Weekly

“This book will attract attention and be in demand.” ―Booklist

Funny but really for adults and not children
By iiiireader
While this is in and of itself a cute book, I don't believe that it is something that you would give to a toddler. It seems more like a funny book for parents to read to themselves to laugh out loud at the things their children are doing. Certainly, the acts of the little boy in the book are very reminiscent of how my grandson acts. One big difference between the book and real life is it doesn't look like the boy is getting guidance from adults when he does stuff he shouldn't. My grandson is always told No and items are removed from his hands or he is moved away from the thing he should not be doing/touching.

So, I thought it was funny and will certainly have my kids read it when they come to visit. What I won't do is read it out loud to my grandson as I don't consider it to really be a children's book.

Misbehavior Without Any Consequences
By tvtv3
I spent two years working in a preschool with both toddlers and 3-4 year-old children. I also helped raise my younger siblings. I've also had a lot of experience working with young children in day camps, Bible schools, summer camp, story hours, etc. I've had a lot of different experience working with children of all kinds of different ages and I really can't find any benefit to the book MUST. PUSH. BUTTONS! There is no story or plot to the book as it claims that MUST. PUSH. BUTTONS! is a look into the mind of a toddler. Although the book visually provides that, the words really don't. Instead, the text is just a jumble that jumps around from one thought to the next. There are some toddlers who behave the way the boy in the book does, but not all toddlers do so. Not only that, but the child in the story is just allowed to run around and do whatever he wants to do without any repercussions whatsoever; the barely-seen adults in the story provide no guidance, direction, or discipline at all. MUST. PUSH. BUTTONS! has some really colorful and fun illustrations which are the book's only redeeming quality. Without those, MUST. PUSH. BUTTONS! is a book that wouldn't even be worth opening.

No reason for this book to exist
By Values Privacy
This book is stupid. Who is it aimed at? Parents to understand kids? Then why is it illustrated? Is it a humor book? Why isn't it funny (supposedly written by a comedian)? It's definitely not educational for kids. It doesn't have a story. It's poorly illustrated. It's not a book you'll read to your kids of any age.

It's just an obnoxious kid doing things and then getting tired. The end.

Why does this book exist?
