Cute story. Beautiful illustrations.

My Mom got this book for my daughter as a 'start of Kindergarten' present. My daughter's name is also Piper and she loves dogs, so she got a big kick out of a book and a dog 'named after her'. The story was simple and had enough repetition that P was able to pick out some sight words on her own as we read together. The rhyming pattern broke down a little bit towards the end, but the message in the story ended on an uplifting note so it made the choppiness of the rhythm easier to ignore.
We also really enjoyed the illustrations in the book. Piper, the dog, came alive in the brushstrokes and the drawings of the inn in Virginia where everything was set were beautiful!

The books I remember most from my childhood not only had a great message, but memorable illustrations. That is the case with "Piper was Afraid". Impressed with the quality and fast shipping.

Delightful read. My first grader loves it!

Such a delightful read talking about something everyone has dealt with in their lives, fear. We just fell in love with Piper through the pages. The story is sweet and thoughtful and the illustrations are lovely.
